Palace Miser: The Palace of Miserly Lolitas

First I was thinking of doing a contest. Something like, "Best Coordination For Under $100"- I think I would exclude shoes, but everything for $100 (or similar amount in your local currency). It would have to be JSK/blouse/dress/basically have every body part covered that needs to be covered, socks, headwear, jewelry, and purse. But then I thought people could cheat to win the prizes. If you bought something a while ago, I doubt you saved the receipt so there's no way to prove the purchase price. So maybe do it as a theme, but contests seem more fun because winning stuff is fun! Any suggestions for contests and to keep people honest?

I buy everything from thrift stores or garage sales and modify it or make my stuff, so that might be tricky, as Goodwill is bad with giving you your receipt and they just don't exist at garage sales as a general rule. That'd screw over a lot of secondhand lolis. Also, I know a lot of sewing Lolita stock up on fabric/lace/etc during sales. There's no way they could keep all their receipts.

Maybe it just comes down to common sense. If someone's posting a pic of them in a dress that says "second hand" or they claim came from Closet Child/F+F/etc, but is CLEARLY a BtSSB dress you JUST SAW on the site, they're full of it. The honors system here is the only thing that makes sense.

That sounds like fun!
Just one question - would it include handmade garments, if the cost of the fabric and trimmings is totalled, or would it apply only to bought clothing?

Also, I too think that receipts would be an issue... maybe it would be better to approximate prices of most things, and if there is something doubtable (e.g. an expensive-looking dress for £10) a receipt or weblink to prove it would be required. It still presents problems, but it might be simpler...

I'm still trying to figure this out so I'll give it more thought on how this is going to happen. I think self made items should be in a category all its own since the criteria is different.

Maybe you can have it to where people have to take pictures of them buying said items at a thrift store, garage sale, or other store with the price tags? ...not a good suggestion, but I thought I'd try ^^;

Yeah, but who's gonna think of that when they come across the occasional thrift store sale/garage sale?

Not everyone has a camera phone.

Like I said, honors system maybe. That way, if someone's lying the soul-burning guilt will GET TO THEM after a while and they will no longer feel pretty in their ill gotten prize (if there is one to feel pretty in).

I already said it wasn't a very good suggestion. Plus, the honor system wouldn't mean anything to most. If they won the prize, that's all they'd care about. But I don't know, however it's done I'm sure will be fine.

I'd like to think people wouldn't lie, but that's just not realistic, but neither is requiring photo proof. But thank you for the suggestion! I need to put on my thinking cap.

*thinking*
